Sensitive Teeth: What You Should Know

Posted .

Do you suffer from sensitive teeth? Does drinking or eating hot or cold foods hurt your pearly whites? Are your teeth ever uncomfortable just because it’s freezing outside? Fortunately, there are quite a few things you can try if you’re interested in dealing with sensitive teeth.

Your sensitive teeth could be caused by several problems. In fact, if you lose or wear down your enamel—which is the protective outer layers of your pearly whites—your tooth’s dentin will become exposed. If this does happen, you might have to cope with tooth sensitivity. There are many different things that can harm and wear down your enamel. This includes gum recession, gum disease, tooth decay, hard brushing or brushing with a hard toothbrush.

Fortunately, you can prevent and avoid many of these dental problems simply by brushing gently and properly twice a day for two minutes. You can also help your sensitive teeth with desensitizing toothpaste, though be aware that this solution could take you up to six weeks before you notice any improvement. Finding out the cause of your sensitivity and having it treated may also help you combat your sensitive teeth.

Finally, there are some different foods and drinks you may want to avoid if you have sensitive teeth. Acidic drinks and foods that contain lemon, wine, apples, and pineapples can all cause you pain. Sugary and spicy foods and drinks can also affect your pearly whites. Finally, please be aware that hot or cold foods could also aggravate your sensitive teeth.
