How to Take Proper Care of Your Child’s Smile by Flossing

Posted .

Flossing is a vital oral hygiene technique that needs to be performed at least once a day, especially on your child’s smile if you want them to have the best oral health possible. However, Dr. Letitia M. Williams and our dental team understands that that might be a difficult task to accomplish if you don’t quite understand how to floss your child’s chompers. So, to help you, we have provided the following flossing instructions:

Step 1: Take about 18 inches of floss out of the container. Then, wind most of the floss around your thumb and index finger, leaving a short amount of floss between them. Then, gently press the floss between two teeth. Please make sure you are gentle as you floss. You don’t want to harm or damage the gums.

Step 2: When you have the floss between two teeth, adjust it into a “C” shape and curve it around each tooth. Slide it up and down along the side of each tooth and under the gumline—just make sure you are extremely gentle as you do so.

Step 3: Please remember to use a clean section of floss when you move from tooth to tooth.
