Swap Out a Decayed Tooth With a Dental Bridge

Posted .

If you have a tooth that is badly decayed, it could create several risks for your oral health, including impeding your ability to chew and resulting in pain and even infection. Severe tooth decay may require our dentist to extract the tooth and provide a custom dental bridge to restore your smile.

If you are looking to restore the full appearance and function of a decayed or missing tooth, a dental bridge can help. This appliance is comprised of a set of false teeth fused with two dental crowns on each end that anchor to the surrounding natural teeth in your smile.

Preparations are needed to accommodate your mouth to the dental bridge, such as forming abutments out of the two neighboring teeth by removing tooth enamel from the inner tooth structures. We then create a detailed impression of the abutments and surrounding teeth so that a dental lab can produce the final bridge from the model. In the meantime, we cement temporary crowns to protect each abutment.

At your second visit to Letitia M. Williams, DDS, LLC, we will remove the temporary crowns and cement the dental bridge in place.
